So we do the unglamorous parts properly: inspect the opening once the old unit is out, repair any rot we find in the framing, set the new window square and plumb rather than forcing it to the old opening, flash it so water drains out instead of in, and insulate and seal the perimeter without over-packing it and bowing the frame.
